Syria backs Baker report on Iraq, regional peace
Posted: 07-12-2006 , 12:44 GMT

baker-reportAn official source at the Syrian Foreign Ministry Thursday described the report of Baker- Hamelton's committee on Iraq as "positive" as it is dealing with the role of Iraqi neighboring states in helping to achieve security and stability in Iraq.

In a statement to SANA, the source said "what the report contains about the necessity to realize comprehensive peace in the region is objective and takes into consideration the basic roots of the state of instability and tension in the region, represented by the absence of just and comprehensive peace."

The source asserted that the Syrian priority is to restore the whole occupied Syrian Arab Golan.
