Posted: 26-06-2009 , 09:54 GMT

baghdad blastA booby-trapped motorcycle loaded with nails and ball-bearings went off in a crowded bazaar Friday in Baghdad, killing at least 13 people and injuring dozens, Iraqi officials said. This latest attack increased the death toll in the past week to over 200.

According to the AP, the blast occurred just after 9 a.m. when the market was packed with young people buying or selling motorcycles in central Baghdad.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack.

A medical assistant at one of the hospitals where the victims were taken said many of the wounded people had been struck by nails and ball-bearings and suffered severe burns. Police and hospital sources said more than 40 people also were wounded.
