Walid MoallemSyrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem on Sunday paid an official visit to Jordan as relations between the two countries continue to improve after years of mutual hostility.

According to Petra news agency, Moallem arrived in Amman on a one-day visit during which he will discuss with a number of Jordanian officials "bilateral ties as well as the latest developments in the region." The Syrian minister was received upon his arrival by Foreign Minister Salahiddin Al Bashir and the Syrian ambassador to Jordan.

Moallem hailed in a press statement the recent visit of Jordan's King Abdullah II to Syria, pointing to the "distinguished relations between Jordan and Syria." The king's visit last month was his first in four years. Under a deal concluded between the two leaders, Syria released 18 Jordanian prisoners and sent them home.
