1,190 Applications Received for Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Teachers
April 30 was the deadline for the application phase for the round 3 of the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Teachers, which lasted two months.
Commenting on the outcome of the application phase for this year, Lubna Touqan, Award Executive Director, said, “We received 1,190 applications this year from the 37 Directorates of Education. This number translates into 2.5% of the overall number of teachers eligible for application in the Kingdom, estimated at around 48,000. This impressive rate is once again equivalent to application rates for other highly-renowned global awards, which range from 1-3%. We are extremely happy with this level of participation and would like to thank all the teachers who have placed their trust in the Award and were keen to be part of this journey to excellence. We are excited to explore their experiences and reveal excellence therein. We also extend our thanks to the Directors of Education, the Award coordinators in the different Directorates of Education, and the Award's ambassadors from 2006 and 2007 for the help they provided in communicating and introducing the Award's message to school principals and teachers and encouraging this number of teachers to participate.”
According to the statistics published by the Award's management, the largest number of applications came for the category 2 (Grades 4 through 8 ), totaling at 380 applications. The total of participants nationwide was 389 males and 801 females.
Touqan added, “We are currently studying the applications and entering them in the Award's database. At this point, we ensure applicants’ eligibility and conformity with the terms of application. When this is done, official letters will be delivered by the Award's coordinators to the teachers who did not qualify explaining to them the reasons for their disqualification. As for those who qualify, their applications will move to the assessment phase."
On a similar note, Touqan explained that the training of potential members of the assessors' team had started on 11 May and will continue until 18 May in preparation for the assessment phase which will begin on 1 June.
