Report: Hizbullah buying lands in southern Lebanon
Posted: 12-08-2007 , 12:24 GMT

hizbullahHizbullah is buying up large tracts of land owned by Christians and other non-Shiites in southern Lebanon as it rebuilds its defences in preparation for a new confrontation with Israel, The Sunday Telegraph reported. The land deals are part of Hizbullah's efforts to rearm and fortify the strategically important ravines north of the Litani River, just north of the front line in last year's 34-day conflict with Israel.

Just south of the Litani, the UN is conducting hundreds of patrols each day in a bid to keep Hizbullah weapons out of the area.

According to the British newspaper, Hizbullah "appears to be readying for round two with Israel." At 16 kilometers from the border, the lands allegedly purchased are within rocket range of Israeli cities.

"Christians and Druze are selling land and moving out, while the Shia are moving in. There is an extraordinary demo-graphic shift taking place," said Edmund Rizk, a Christian MP for the area until 1992.

I think you are sadly mistaken. No one is upset but they are trying to be careful since Hizbullah always instigate (harkesh). I don't remember Lebanon being attacked if the Syrians or Hizbullah instigated. You might think that I am stupid and I'm probably Jewish or Israeli, but no, I am Lebanese and Muslim who just wants piece in the country so I can go back with my family and live alone. Instead fighting each other we should unite and fight politically since we have a lot of smart people. I do respect Alsayed and his intelligence, but damn, give us a break so the country can breathe

I am Lebanese, not Shia, but fully support anyone who protects our right to live in peace and dignity. I think this article is another item on the agenda of scare-mongering to create dissent among the Lebanese. One day, thanks to the courage of our people, we shall all go back and live as we should in a true democracy: one proud nation, brothers and sisters united under the same flag drawing our own destiny.
