Ten candidates have come forward for the July 18 presidential election in Mauritania, according to a list released Wednesday by the constitutional council.
 
The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera TV said Al-Qaeda in North Africa region claimed Thursday the killing of an American aid worker who was shot dead earlier this week in Mauritania's capital.
 
Witnesses on Tuesday said two gunmen shot and killed an American man as he was leaving his car in Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania.
