Qtel Offers Support for Hajj Pilgrims
Posted: 23-11-2009 , 09:57 GMT

Qtel continues to support the needs of the people of Qatar, developing a range of special initiatives to support pilgrims travelling to Mecca for Hajj this year.

The company continues to offer the SmartRoamer service for customers travelling to Saudi Arabia, which means Shahry customers can make local calls for just QR1 per minute and SMS to anywhere for only QR1 each.

Calling home to Qatar from Saudi Arabia is just QR2 per minute for Shahry customers, and the same rate applies for calling any other GCC country from within Saudi Arabia.

In addition, as part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, volunteers from Qtel are spending the week distributing special backpacks to people undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage.

The backpacks have been specially-designed to meet the needs of Hajj pilgrims, containing a sleeping bag, shoe bag, protective face mask, a pocket-sized prayer sejadah, jamarat bag, hand sanitizer and flight-friendly nail kit.

Over 3,000 backpacks are being distributed to organizers of Hajj trips, and a series of packs have also been directly delivered to customers with special needs undertaking the pilgrimage.

The company has ensured that all employees undertaking Hajj this year have been equipped with the special packs. Qtel also works with the Da'wa and Guidance Department to provide guidance and tuition around Hajj for those who have not previously undertaken it.

Qtel’s CSR programme, “For Qatar, Hand in Hand” looks to support a range of initiatives year-round in partnership with the people of Qatar. The programme was recently named the leading CSR programme in the region at the CEO Middle East Awards 2009.
