Libyan ambassador returns to Saudi Arabia
Posted: 12-12-2005 , 15:23 GMT

The Libyan ambassador to Saudi Arabia returned on Sunday to Riyadh following his expulsion one year ago, when the two countries broke off diplomatic relations.

Dr. Muhammad Sa’id Al-Qashat resumed his position as ambassador, while Saudi Arabia's ambassador is expected to return to Libya in the near future.

Strained relations between the two countries, and the decision to expel Libya's ambassador from Saudi Arabia, followed the discovery of a secret plot to assassinate Saudi Crown Prince at the time, Abdullah Abd Al Aziz, who is now king.

Five Libyan intelligence members were believed to be involved in the assassination plan, according to Al Hayat.

Intensive negotiations were held in recent weeks to resolve the issue and return the nations' respective ambassadors to their posts.
