Posted: 05-11-2009 , 12:39 GMT

saudi warplanesThe Saudi air force bombed rebel strongholds in northern Yemen after rebels killed two Saudi security men on the border, the Saudi-owned Elaph website reported on Thursday. According to the report, Saudi ground forces were also moving towards the border area. The Shi'ite rebels, known as Houthis, have previously accused Saudi Arabia of helping Yemen's armed forces in the conflict.

The Houthis said on their website late on Wednesday that Saudi planes had struck four locations using phosphorus bombs.

The rebels also said on Wednesday they had taken control of the Jabal al-Dukhan area after defeating Saudi forces there.

Reporting the cross-border raid, the official Saudi news agency said gunmen fired on Saudi patrols in Jabal al-Dukhan town, killing one security officer and wounding 11.
