The Land Rover sponsored ‘Beyond Expectations’ team made history by becoming the first all-women, UAE based team to participate and win multiple trophies at the Sarawak Regatta boat race held in Malaysia between the 1st to 6th September. The Beyond Expectations team beat other men and mixed gender teams to take the second place in the 20 paddler tourist category.

The team of 21 UAE based women was led by Julie Amer, the founder of Mountain High - a Dubai based company promoting well-being through adventurous activities and Chantelle Howes, a joint team leader. They underwent a grueling training regiment in Dubai at the crack of dawn each day for six weeks prior to the event. The team consisted of both experienced and first-time paddlers. They were coached by David Martin, a leading dragon boat racing specialist from Australia who has previously trained Olympic squads in Montreal.

“The victories are remarkable achievements for Julie and her team of pioneering women. Land Rover is delighted to have supported them through demanding and adventurous expeditions that echo our ethos and brand values. The team exemplifies the philosophy of exploration and going beyond expectations and are a source of inspiration to all,” said Marwan Halabi, General Manager Marketing, Land Rover Middle East & North Africa.

The team also came in third and fourth in 10 women paddlers’ category. Beyond Expectations will aim to participate annually in this world famous event.
