LG Electronics has swept up 21 awards for product design at the iF Design Awards 2007, doubling its take from last year, when it received awards for 11 products.

Held annually, the iF product design award is one of the most highly regarded design-related honours in Europe. LG’s ‘Fantasy’ monitor series, Virtual 5.1Ch Home Theater System, 3 Door Refrigerator and mobile handsets were among the products chosen for appreciation.

“LG’s design leadership extends beyond its actual products. This year, LG won its first award in packaging design for its ‘5 mega pixel camera phone- KG920, showing that the brand itself is becoming more and more synonymous with great design,” added Kim.

LG’s award-wining ‘Fantasy’ monitor series comprises three unique stand designs; Jar, Eclipse, and Ring. Each design represents eternity, mystery and communication. The 19-inch monitors boost a maximum screen resolution of 1280x1024, and brightness of 3000cd/m2.
With a viewing angle of 170 degrees, a contrast ratio of 2000:1 and response time of 4 milli-second, the ‘Fantasy’ monitors guarantees crisper and brighter images, and is ideal for gaming.

Another award winning product is LG’s KE820 Slim Card phone. Minimal and slim, the phone’s size is proportional to that of a credit card. It boosts a 2 mega-pixel camera that is able to produce up a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels, and supports auto focus for clearer pictures.
The KE820 sports a 2-inch, 256k-colour TFT screen with a resolution of 144 x 176 pixels, and supports 64 polyphonic tunes and mp3 clips as ringtones. With a body size of 95 x 52 x 9.9 mm, the KE820 comes equipped with  Bluetooth, USB port, microSD memory card slot, 128MB built-in memory and A2DP. The A2DP via Bluetooth allows one to use the music player with a stereo Bluetooth headset.
LG’s other winning products include the 3 Door Refrigerator (GR-L258SSKA), the 5 mega-pixel camera phone (KG920), and the DMB MP3 player (FM 36).

LG has six overseas design branches who work closely with the headquarters in Seoul to create products that meet the needs, desire and the dreams of consumers.

Earlier this year LG broke industry records by winning awards in 20 categories at the reddot design awards 2006, and became one of only two Asian teams ever to win reddot’s Design Team of the Year award.
