greater amman municipality launches blog site
Initiating Open Channels of Communication between the Public and Key Decision Makers

Aligned with its aims to maintain open channels of communication between itself and the citizens of Amman, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced the launch of its new GAM blog site, www.ammancityblog.com.

The blog, powered by Jeeran, the Arab World’s leading provider for user-generated content platforms, promises to offer its users from across the Middle East the opportunity to share ideas, thoughts, suggestions, and opinions directly with the Mayor of Amman, H.E. Mr. Omar Maani.

The site was officially launched on November 5th 2007 at a press conference held at the GAM headquarters. It is all ready up and running and so far has generated positive feedback from its users.

Commenting on the new launch, H.E. Mr. Maani said, “On behalf of everyone here at the Greater Amman Municipality, I thank Jeeran for creating for us a platform that allows the public to interact with our team members and to constructively practice their freedom of speech. We are advocates of dialogue and vigorously seek mediums in which we can proactively reach out to the community. We encourage all citizens to use this blog as www.ammancityblog.com provides a space in which they could freely state the concerns they feel affect their day-to-day lives in Amman. By using the tools that this blog provides, the citizens of Amman are in fact helping us fulfill our mission to secure a better quality of life for them and their families.”

H.E. Mr. Maani also stated that GAM is proud to be collaborating with Jeeran on this project, as Jeeran is a company that has secured a leading position for itself within the regional IT field. “Jeeran has shown great expertise in the creation of online platforms fed by user-generated content. By partnering with their team of experts, we at GAM are confident that www.ammancityblog.com will soon be the communication platform of choice for the region’s leading bloggers and the general public,” he said.

From his end, President and Co-founder of Jeeran, Mr. Omar Koudsi, added that www.ammancityblog.com is a significant communication tool. Elaborating further on this fact he said, “Through its user friendly interface, this site grants citizens the opportunity and privilege to communicate directly with the Mayor of Amman and to ensure that their voices are heard by the very individuals that could accelerate and influence positive change. The website's infrastructure was built on our blogging engine which is designed to allow easy content updates.”

Director of Innovation and Co-founder of Jeeran, Mr. Laith Zraikat, stated that www.ammancityblog.com is a tool that allows online communication to evolve to new levels. Commenting further on the building of this site, he said, “We were very keen to create a portal that allows people to openly communicate ideas. To achieve this goal, we used our technological know-how and experience to create a medium of communication that breaks down the social barriers often placed by and between people of different socio-economic backgrounds.”

It is important to note that this blog is updated daily with the latest news and developments seen in Amman. It also provides a daily update on the different projects initiated by GAM. It hosts website building tools, a blogging engine, an online briefcase and lots more as it is positioned to serve as GAM’s window on the needs and demands the public requires from their city.
