Dubai World Trade Centre Generates Major Opportunities for UAE-US Trade;
Director General Presented with American Business Award

Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), has received a special award from the American Business Council for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, for his work promoting UAE-US trade links.

Al Marri received the American Business Award, which is presented annually to UAE Nationals who are actively engaged in stimulating international trade, at a specially-convened American Business Council gala dinner.

The Director General was nominated for the award for his personal involvement in the continuous development of new trade opportunities, as well as for the positive impact of DWTC’s activities in this area.

American companies have a strong presence at the majority of trade exhibitions organised at DWTC venues, and the group has played an active role in encouraging larger and more comprehensive trade pavilions across a range of industry-specific shows, including Gulfood, Big 5, Middle East International Motor Show and GITEX Technology Week.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this award. Trade exhibitions provide important stimulus to the development of trade links between the US and the UAE, which in turn creates economic opportunity for local and regional businesses,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre.

As well as trade exhibitions, DWTC is involved in organising and hosting a growing volume of international professional congresses and conferences, including a number of dedicated events for US organisations. The World Trade Centres Association (WTCA), based in New York, will be holding the WTCA General Assembly in November 2008 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, when 600 delegates from 85 countries are expected to attend.

The American Business Award is one of a number of major awards won by DWTC and DWTC representatives in 2007. Founded in 1985, the American Business Council has a membership of over 500 companies and individual business people within the UAE.

The American Business Council of Dubai and the Northern Emirates is a non-profit voluntary association of individuals and companies promoting the development of commerce between the United States and the UAE.  The ABC is a chapter of the US Chamber of Commerce and provides a networking facility for the members. The ABC works closely with the UAE community on matters of mutual awareness and works to heighten Dubai’s commercial position in the Middle East among the American business community.
