Posted: 27-07-2008 , 09:07 GMT

Panasonic has announced it will be releasing two new handheld camcorders aimed at professional users later in the year.

The AG-HPX174, a member of the P2HD series, will be introduced into the market in September 2008; while the AG-HMC154, a model of the AVCCAM series, will be launched in October.

Both cameras feature a newly developed 13x Leica Dicomar zoom lens with the widest angle in the 1/3-inch class, which has significantly helped in reducing the weight of the cameras. The AG-HPX174 weighs 2.25 kg while the AG-HMC154 weighs in at less than 2 kg.

Panasonic Marketing Middle East General Manager, System solutions Mr. Yasuo Yamasaki, says that which ever of the cameras a production team chooses, they are ensured a camcorder which shoots in high definition and enables easy post production because footage is not recorded onto tape media.

The AG-HPX174 records onto P2 storage cards and is equipped with a newly-developed 1/3-inch progressive 3-CCD system, which substantially improves picture quality and has a range of manual settings which allow of creative shooting.

The AG- HMC154 also features a newly-developed 1/3-inch progressive 3-CCD system and utilizes SD cards as storage media.

“Choosing memory cards as recording media has proven high reliability in the “P2” series and will change the face of workflow in HD production for professional use,” Yamasaki said. “Also, the reuse of memory cards and the reduction of replacement parts by the elimination of moving parts will contribute to global environmental conservation.”
