Students briefed on port operations, management

A student delegation from the Lauder Institute at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania recently visited the DP World’s UAE Region headquarters and the Jebel Ali Port as part of its global tour to develop strategic business skills and leadership qualities.

The delegation comprised students of Masters in Business Administration and Masters in Global Studies in addition to linguistic training in eight languages, including Arabic. The delegation was briefed on the operations and the progress of the various development works going on at the port.

Mohammed Ali Ahmed, Director of Strategic Planning and Business Support Department for DP World’s UAE Region, said: “Wharton School is a prestigious academic institution providing Business Administration programmes, and we are proud to be associated with it”.

“Creative planning, foresight, and top-class management methods are some of the main reasons that make any venture a resounding success, and I hope that this trip proves to be a useful learning experience for you all,” he told the students.

The Wharton students’ visit was part of a comprehensive programme by the Institute to prepare a new generation of leaders with management skills of global standards, arm them with the ability to understand the rapidly changing economic scenarios and effectively respond to those changes. DP World - UAE Department of Strategic Planning conducted a working session for the visiting students to introduce them to the major guidelines adopted by DP World in planning its operations.

Wharton School also trains Dubai World executives under the prestigious Dubai Leaders Program, which the two parties jointly launched in 2006. The program is custom-made to suit the requirements and challenges of work environment at Dubai World. Recently 70 young Group executives graduated from the program and 45 new officers, including nine from DP World, have been selected for the next batch and have already left for the US under the programme.
