Sales from recent Gift & Premium show prove popularity of jute bags
Dubai, UAE; November 28, 2009: The usage of earth friendly bags in the UAE is becoming popular among companies as recently shown by the encouraging sales of a distributor at the Gift and Premium show held in Dubai recently.
“Due to the nature of jute bags being accepted very positively by the community, our existing clients will be placing repetitive orders and already other large companies are finalizing their orders,” said Adel Maniar, Managing Director of Mak Creations, sole distributor of “Earthbags” in the Middle East and North Africa.
Maniar explained that 50% their available stock of 5,000 pieces comprising promotional to design carry bags have been sold at the show which was held during the last week of October at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
Currently patronizing the “Earthbags” are by Emirates Airlines, Dubai Department of Economic Development, London Center for Aesthetic Surgery, Adam & Eve, Kings Dubai, and Green Ecostore.
Maniar disclosed that Jumeirah Hotels & Resort, Beit Al Khair, Dar Al Ber, and Air Charter International are their latest clients.
“‘Earthbags’ greatest advantage is its ethically manufactured high quality finish jute, canvas and cotton materials and the use of eco-friendly inks which are least harmful to the environment,” Maniar further said.
The “Earthbags” factory in Kolkata, India has a manufacturing capacity of 1.8 million jute bags per year. The factory hires unemployed women.
Maniar added: “Our step is not solely to help the environment but moreover help the underprivileged families in India.”
Recently, Nakheel Retail, the owner of Ibn Battuta Mall and Dragon Mart, has launched a range of stylish, re-usable shopping bags also made from jute. With the slogans 'plastic is so last season', and 'I love green', the bags have become a must-have fashion accessory.
Moreover, Geant, Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society and Carrefour are encouraging customers to purchase a reusable cloth or jute bag and Spinneys has insulation bags for sale.
Jute is one of the strongest natural plant fibers which is durable and re-usable. It is a 100 % natural material that consumes carbon dioxide and releases oxygen into the atmosphere. Fabrics made of jute fibers are therefore carbon dioxide neutral and are naturally decomposable.
