Yemen: Bodies of missing tourists found
Posted: 15-06-2009 , 12:57 GMT

yemen soldiersThe corpses of seven foreign tourists were found in Sa’ada, Yemen Monday.  They were part of a group of nine visiting the northern mountain city, and were kidnapped last Thursday.  Authorities suspect the Shiite Zaidi rebels were responsible.

The nine tourists were part of an international relief group that has been working in a hospital in Sa’ada for 35 years.  Apparently, the nine tourists were out for a walk last Thursday and never returned.  Among them were seven Germans, one South Korean woman, and a British man.  Two of the three children in the group were found alive.  The Zaidi rebels denied the charges early Monday.

This news is the latest of a string of foreign tourist abductions in Yemen.  24 local and tourist workers were kidnapped by tribesmen earlier this month at the same hospital, Al-Salaam hospital, and released soon after.
