Gaddafi warns Iran of same fate of Iraq as Western power to discuss further sanctions
Posted: 06-08-2008 , 07:24 GMT

Gaddafi libyaIran risks going the same way as Iraq under Saddam Hussein in its dispute with the West over its nuclear works, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Tuesday, adding Tehran is too weak to meet the challenges it faces alone.

"What Iran is doing is pure vanity," said Gaddafi. "If a decision is taken against Iran, it will suffer the same fate as Iraq ... Iran is no stronger than Iraq and will be unable to resist."

According to Reuters, Gaddafi said countries that chose isolation were doomed to fail. "No country will survive on its own in the future -- it will disappear," Gaddafi said. "The challenges facing Iran are greater than its ability to overcome them alone."

The Libyan leader's comments came as Bush administration intensifies its efforts to persuade the Group 5+1 to put extra pressure on Tehran as the latter fails to respond to their incentives package, PressTV reported. The five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (G5+1) will hold a conference call on Wednesday to decide the next step, US State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos said Tuesday.

"If we are not going to receive a clear response, a clear message from them, we are going to have no choice but to pursue additional measures," said Gallegos. "So first we will see what happens with the rest of the day that is left in Europe, and then they will have their call tomorrow. We will see where we go from there," he added.

Gaddafi u idiot. Why are the Iranians alone, like the Iraqis were. Its because of spineless countries like yours who just kneel and bow before the west. If you arabs stuck together no force on air could hurt you. What happened to the colonel of the 80's and 90's.

I agree with you, fast. Arab leaders are the ones who support the Americans' aggression. May Allah put them in the lowest level of Nar Jahannam.

I'm not sure Arab Leaders support America per se. They support whoever can help them remain independent from their neighbors. Many Arab countries only maintain a tentative internal peace. There are still too many religious sect hatred to form lasting governments. Example: Shiia versus Sunni. If there were no other enemies around they would kill each other simply because they interpret Islam differently. Until they can mature beyond such bickerings they will always want/need a supporter for their governments.

Do not judge Gaddafi on the base of his words. All of you that commented do not have enough information to make conclusions. The current situation around Iran is not clear, and does not have to do anything with religion as some of readers suggested. It is a trap in setting for US and Israel. Similar tactic used in Georgia, bite offer. Gaddafi is not stupid, and he just encourages the start of the end… At least some Arab leaders leaned the game rules.

well.if Iran is like Libya and get a donation from Italians and get help if he kneels for western countries, then you might say he is right.he is wrong since he was afraid to end like saddam.it is the arabs who will need to stop killing each other and begin introducing some cultures that they have never had.if it was not for US or Israel, there won't be any gadaffi.the old terrorist has begged for mercy so all the donations have started pouring in.so please do not decide about any other country.Iran army is not going to run if USA decides to bomb Iran. They will die for their country and will make sure that invaders will learn a lesson.

The lesson Mike will learn is how painful it is to hate a country as great and powerful as the USA. Despite the overtone of his massage, which seems to support terrorism and nukes in the hand of terrorist sponsor state, I do feel sorry for him.
