Shireen Wajdi prepares for her debut on the big screen
Posted: 19-02-2005 , 09:49 GMT

Egyptian singer Shireen Wajdi announced that she will make her debut in the acting world with her upcoming film “Na’ema Bain Al Sama Wal Ard” (Sleeping between the Sky and Earth) under the direction of Ali Rajab. The singer revealed that she is overly excited on being nominated for the leading role by the director, but has also expressed her fears about entering the acting world.

The singer explained that she fears the new experience as it will be the first time she appears in front of the camera as an actress in a movie - something that is completely different from her performances in music videos. Shireen stressed that she is grateful that director made her his first choice for the lead role in the film, which is an indication of his high hopes for her talents.

The singer has also announced that she will completely refrain from holding any concerts once a date has been set for the shooting of the film. Shireen’s only acting experience previous to this was a minor role in the popular television drama “Bawabat Al Halawani”.

On another note, Wajdi has denied rumors that she had recently insulted Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram publicly. At a press conference in Tunisia, Wajdi denied the rumors, which accused her of insulting Ajram in a magazine who quoted her as saying that she does not think Ajram is a good singer.

Shireen explained that her comments were twisted by the interviewer resulting in the misunderstanding. Wajdi had told the magazine that she felt the true singers of the Arab world are the older generation, however the new generation is also adding a lot to the Arab music industry. Shireen had even made a personal phone call to Nancy explaining the misunderstanding and made sure that there were no hard feelings between the two. – Albawaba.com
