Amr Diab and Salama Hayek together after Christmas
Posted: 07-12-2004 , 11:30 GMT

amr-fDuring a quick interview at the Dubai International Film Festival Syrian international director Mustafa Al Akkad was able to reach an agreement with Egyptian pop-star Amr Diab to star in the new film “Amir Al Andalus” (Prince of Andalusia) alongside Hollywood star Salam Hayek.

The film, which has a budget of one hundred million Egyptian pounds, revolves around the era before the fall of Andalusia at the hands of Europeans. Amr is to play the role of a young man who loves music and falls in love with a girl from Andalusia.

The film will be shot in Spain and will feature scenes of seduction, action, and musical performances, where Amr is to sing a number of songs in the English language. The singer and Mustafa have arranged to begin a tour around Spain after the Christmas holidays to decide on the best places to shoot the scenes.

Mustafa is most famous for directing internationally known films like “Al Risalah” (The Message) and “Omar Al Khatab”, which featured international actors like Anthony Quin.

Diab has very recently held a successful concert at the Carling Apollo in Hammersmith, London. Fans had waited for the singer outside for hours before the concert started wanting to show how anxious they were to hear him perform. The concert was sponsored by AG Productions, which specializes in organizing concerts and the promotion of the brightest singers from the Arab world around Europe. Amr presented some of his most popular songs to an audience that kept up with him for over two hours.
