Posted: 08-12-2004 , 09:52 GMT

The British international news network BBC has surprised the guests of the Beirut International Book Fair by choosing Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi as the face of their language haifaprogram and their ambassador at the fair. The network’s decision shocked people and created a commotion on the opening day of the fair by journalists rushing to write about the instance and television networks to comment on the issue.

On their part, BBC justified their decision of choosing Haifa is the fact that she is a very loved person among different age groups around the Arab world, and having her face on the cover of their language programs will make people want to learn.

The network’s stand become known as Haifa’s stand at the fair, which witnessed the most visitors. Large posters of the singer occupied the stand and on covers of the different programs and language books that said "Follow Me", reported the London based daily, Al Hayat.

The singer expressed her honor at being chosen by such an important network and added that she is over whelmed at being the guest of honor at the prestigious fair. Her presence made photographers concentrate on taking her pictures and forgetting about all the important books at the fair.
