Head of the Egyptian Musician Association Hassan Abu Al Soud and Egyptian singer Anoshka took part in a seminar about pornographic music videos held at the Cairo Opera House. During the seminar, social studies professor Izzat Kareem gave a speech in which she attacked seductive music videos as the main factor in the increase of divorce and drug abuse rates among the young generation in Egypt.
Izzat added that the new trend of music videos and the numerous music channels have caused strong family ties to break, reported the Qatar based Al Jazeera. The professor added almost every husband began demanding that his wife look like Haifa Wahbi, Ruby, Nancy Ajram, and so on, but such a change is impossible for most women leading their husbands to look elsewhere for seductive singers look-alikes.
It was added that husbands began dreaming of having relationships with the women who appear in such music videos and wives began imagining that their husbands talk to them using words of some songs. Izzat stressed that teenage girls began dressing and acting like seductive singers to attract attention.
On a similar note, the Egyptian Censorship Committee started a campaign against seductive music videos and refused to allow the airing of over twenty music videos by different singers. the censorship turned down all request to produce and broadcast demeaning clips, which it considered were means of corruption.
A report released by the committee talked about music videos that featured sexual connotations and females barely dressed, stressing that that even the words sung by the singers held no meaning and were basically gibberish. The committee refused requests by producers to eliminate some of the inappropriate scenes and allow the clips to be aired, stressing that if singers wanted their songs aired they must reproduce the entire clip in a suitable matter fit to be aired and watched.
The Egyptian Musician Association has announced that it is very serious in its fight against pornographic music videos, and intends on forming a committee that will be responsible for trying to convince different music channels that air such videos in stopping them. It was argued that such music videos are an insult to Arab music.
