Amr Diab runs for Egyptian Parliament
Posted: 20-04-2005 , 07:53 GMT

Egyptian pop-star Amr Diab is steering away from his profession and will run for elections in the Egyptian Parliament, which will take place immediately after the Presidential elections. The singer has already began his new political campaign by going back to his hometown to try and win over the support of his people.d

According to the London based Elaph, Amr will make the announcement of his election publicly in the upcoming few days. It is unpredictable if the singer will be able to defeat former parliament members, but he will depend on his popularity to win votes and is concentrating on the young generation.

Amr will fiercely compete with other members of parliament to try to win a seat and will do all that is needed to ensure his victory. The past ten years of the singer’s career have brought him enormous fame all over Egypt and abroad, which is the ticket Amr is relying on.

On a different note, Egyptian scenarist Midhat Al Adel has denied circulating rumors that Diab had withdrew from the film “Al Mutamarid” (The Rebel). The film, which Midhat is currently in the process of writing, tells the journey of Amr from his beginning until the present.

Midhat stressed that Amr is very enthusiastic about the film and there are contracts between them that enable Midhat to complete the script without any fears. Many had speculated that Amr had withdrew from the film after being offered to play a role in a film by Syrian director Mustafa Al Akkad, but the latter denied any such news.
