Internationally known Egyptian actor Omar Sharif has turned down a very generous offer of one million and a half Egyptian pounds, made by the ‘Egyptian Media Production City,’ to star in a new television drama written by Waheed Seif.omar

According to the UAE based daily, Al Bayan, Omar explained that his refusal to accept the offer was due to his poor health condition, which demands that he refrain from any exhausting activities.  The actor turned down another offer to star in a Hollywood production for the same reason.

Earlier this year, the ‘Egyptian Media Production City’ reached an agreement with the American production company KBN to produce a joint animated film, an adaptation of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.

According to the agreement, the American company took on the responsibility of advertising for the film in the West, where as the Egyptian company will promote the film around the Arab world.

The film will mark the first joint animated film between an Egyptian and an international company. Omar was nominated to be the voice of one of the major characters in the film alongside a number of internationally renowned stars.
