Laila's visit was covered by different media sources from around the Arab world and she held a number of interviews talking about the aim of her visit and her concerns for the people who are suffering from genocide, political and economical problems. The actress stated that she will send out a message to all her freinds in the entertainment world to help people in Darfur in any way possible.

The actress added that the conditions she has witnessed in Darfur should be conveyed on the small and big screen so as the world can see how people are living and what kind of conditions they are experiencing.

Laila helped refugees bring water and donated food to those in need, in particular children's food. The actress made it clear that people in Egypt are concerned with the situation in Darfur. Laila said that what she had witnessed in Darfur is nothing like what she had previously heard with regards to the genocide, rape and chaos.

Laila had come to Sudan after she was invited by the Sudanese Al Zubair Charitable Foundation.

on a different note, Elwi is preparing for her upcoming role in the new television drama "Asafeer Al Kanari" (Canary Birds), which is scheduled to be aired during the next Ramadan season.

The new drama is written by Mohammad Nabih and directed by Abdul Mune'em Sadeq. Laila plays the role of a flight attendant, who encounters numerous obstacles throughout her journey in different countries. Despite all the obstacles, she insists on fighting for her female virtues and traditional Egyptian ethics.

The director has nominated actor Riad Al Khouli, prominent Syrian actress Muna Wassef, Dina Abdul Aziz, Buthaina Rashwan and Sami Al Adel to costar alongside Laila. The drama will be produced in cooperation with the UAE satellite channel "Al Shariqa" and filming locations have been set to be in Cairo, Sharm El Sheikh, Holand and Greece.

Elwi has also begun shooting the scenes of her upcoming film "Farah Laila" (Laila’s Wedding) this past February.

The film had been postponed due to Laila’s commitments to the film "Alwan Al Sama Al Saba" (The color of the Seven Skies), in addition to her participation on the judging panel of the Dubai Film Festival.

After Laila returned from Dubai, she held extensive work sessions with writer/director of the film Khaled Al Hajar to discuss the details of the movie, and to choose the remaining cast.

Despite the nomination of a number of actors, the director refused to reveal any names until he receives their final approval.

The film revolves around a young lady who refuses to get married, but changes her mind once she meets the man of her dreams.
