The Grand Canyon, in northwestern Arizona, is the world’s largest canyon. It is 450 km (285 miles) long, 1.6 km (1 mile) deep and almost 29 km (18 miles) wide.
The Grand Canyon which became a national park in 1919 formed over the last 6 million years, as the Colorado River slowly cut its way through layers and layers of rock.
