Wind is created when cooler air rushes to fill in the vacuum created as warm air rises. Most probably the Egyptians were the first to capture and use wind energy when they sailed their boats up the Nile River around the 4th century BC. Since then, wind-powered sailing vessels sailed the world's rivers, lakes, seas and oceans, as the principal form of commercial transport for many centuries. © 2005 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com) |
