Birds may be plant-eaters, meat-eaters or both. Plant eaters usually eat seeds, but some may eat leaves and fruit, and some like the tiny humming birds of America live on the sweet nectar of flowers. Meat-eaters eat insects, worms and grubs, and they may also eat fish and mussels.
Birds of prey, like eagles and hawks, eat mice, rabbits, and other birds too. The vultures of India and Africa eat the remains of animals that have been killed by other animals. These birds are called scavengers and they help keep places clean by eating leftovers.© 2006 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com) |
