· Cover the plate with a layer of newspaper pieces. Make sure the pieces overlap each other. Do not leave any empty spaces.
· Brush wallpaper paste over the newspaper layer, and then repeat the previous step.
· Leave them to dry for at least 4 hours.
· Repeat the previous 3 steps until you have 6 layers of newspaper pieces.
· With a knife, separate your papier mâché from the plate.
· Paste another layer of newspaper pieces on the bottom of your papier mâché over the petroleum jelly.
· Trim the edge of your papier mâché with scissors.
· Leave until completely dry.
· Use thick poster paints and paint a pattern on your papier mâché.
· When the paint is completely dry, brush a coat of clear varnish all over it to give it a shiny finish.
