Dinosaur Herds
Posted: 16-06-2006 , 20:01 GMT

Millions of years ago dinosaurs roamed the Earth. There were many different kinds of dinosaurs. Some were plant eaters, others were meat eaters. Safety in numbers was the peaceful  plant eaters best defense against attacks from the meat eaters. Young dinosaurs stayed with the herd for the rest of their lives.

If their feeding ground had plenty of food, a herd might grow to a hundred or more. In some big herds, males fought one another for a female or for leadership.

When a herd moved, they put their young in the middle and guarded them form all sides. If meat eaters attacked, the dinosaurs would form a circle and put their young in the center.

At night when the herd slept some dinosaurs stayed alert and moving to guard the herd.
