The Black Iris of Jordan
Posted: 15-02-2007 , 12:07 GMT

The Black Iris is Jordan's National Flower. You do not see a lot of black flowers in nature, but when you do they are very elegant and quite unique. The name iris comes from the Greek word for a rainbow.

Besides the Black Iris, Jordan has nine more different kinds of iris. Some of these kinds are extremely rare and one kind, light blue, is now extinct. Please don't pick wild iris, it is an endangered plant.
