At the end of the 16th century beggars in Seville, Spain invented the cigarette. They collected used cigar butts and then rolled the old tobacco inside a small cylinder of paper.
From Spain, cigarette use spread to Portugal, England, Italy and France. And in 1853, the first commercial industrial cigarette factory opened in Havana.
