In 1938 Nylon first appeared in the market. Only one year after Dr. Wallace Carothers, who led a team of researchers from the American company Du Pont to develop Nylon, committed suicide. The potential for using Nylon as stockings was quickly seen and Du Pont launched their first Nylon stockings in 1940 but they only reached Europe in 1945.
