The first successful zip fastener was patented in 1917 and described as a separable fastener. By 1924 the words zip and zipper were in common use.

Since that time the zip has become one of the most widely used mechanical fastenings for clothing, luggage, footwear, outdoor equipments and many more.

A zipper is one of the things we never notice unless it goes wrong!
