The personal stereo is a portable audio player using an audiocassette player. This stereo allows a mobile person to listen to music through headphones.
The first personal stereo was invented and patented by the German inventor Andreas Pavel in 1977. Pavel attempted to commercialise this invention but failed to do so.
The Sony Walkman, released in 1979, was the first commercial personal stereo. The popular product was created by the co-founders of Sony, Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka along with Kozo Ohsone.
The Sony Walkman beacame very successful and made Sony A lot of money. This success lasted until other types of portable audio players such as the Minidisc and MP3 players appeared.
