People were farming along the Nile River in Egypt as early as 5000 B.C. With time, the people along this great river settled into two kingdoms: Upper Egypt in the south and Lower Egypt in the North.
Around 3100 B.C., a king from Upper Egypt united the two kingdoms. His name was Menes and he was honored as Egypt’s first pharaoh.
Between 3100 B.C. and 332 B.C. thirty dynasties of pharaohs reigned in Egypt.
