A Lebanese cabinet meeting set for Sunday has been delayed because of divisions over whether to discuss the disarmament of Hizbullah, a government source told Reuters. "Hizbullah had some observations over ... the discussion of their disarmament," the source added.
A U.N. Security Council resolution to end fighting between Israel and Hizbullah calls for the "disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, so that, pursuant to the Lebanese cabinet decision of July 27, 2006, there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than the Lebanese state."
The cabinet, which includes two Hizbullah ministers, unanimously approved the resolution on Saturday but disputes surfaced at the over the disarmament issue.
Hizbullah agreed to the deployment of the Lebanese army to southern Lebanon, which it now controls, to expedite an end to the month-old war.
