Lebanon's parliamentary majority leader accused Syria Thursday of blocking moves to end a political crisis in his country.
On a visit to Brussels, Saad Hariri also urged the European Union to help pressure Damascus to stop undermining attempts to establish a tribunal to investigate his father's killing. "There have been efforts by Saudi Arabia and Iran to get the crisis in Lebanon resolved," he told reporters at the European Parliament.
"Saudi Arabia knows the politics of Lebanon. Iran has a role because of its involvement with Hizbullah. So hopefully there is a kind of discussion that is ongoing now in finding an end to this crisis," Hariri said, according to AFP.
But Hariri added: "I believe that the main problem today is the Syrian regime who is trying to stop this agreement to happen."
"What we are asking the EU, and others, is to tell those countries to stop interfering in the Middle East conflicts. Lebanon is way too small for them to be interested in it," Hariri said.
"There is interference from Syria and the Syrian regime to stop this tribunal," he said.
"I hope that the EU takes our case," he added.
