Egypt, Jordan and Palestine threatened by global warming
Posted: 18-12-2007 , 10:44 GMT

jordan palestine egyptA recent report published by Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME) for the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia illustrated that the security risk of climate change to the Middle East is very real.

With the Middle East being the world’s most water-stressed region, climate change, which is projected to cause sea level rise that will flood Egypt’s 2nd largest city, Alexandria, and displace millions of people, will contribute to even greater water stress in the region. “The expected rise in sea level will make dysfunctional the coastal groundwater for 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza,” claimed Nader Khateeb, Palestinian director of Friends of the Earth Middle East.

“Being left unprepared will affect not only economic, physical, and environmental security, but national, regional, and global security, if actions are not taken now to mitigate, and adapt to, the projected impacts of climate change,” Khateeb stressed.

Munqeth Mehyar, Director of FoEME’s Amman office and FoEME chair stated “it will be essential for the most developed countries to provide developing countries with technical and financial assistance in adapting to climate change. Bali presents a major opportunity to enhance these efforts, and countries of the region will have to manage water resources and cooperate over transboundary water resources to a much greater extent in the future, as a result of climate change.”

“Under climate change there will be no fresh water resources available for agriculture”, Mehyar added.

The organization noted the climate change is expected to make water resources even more scarce in Jordan and Palestine, which already are among the most water-scarce countries in the world, and will thereby contribute to even greater water stress in the region. “FoEME calls on the Jordanian Government to assist rural communities in Jordan that currently are dependent on agriculture to diversify their income sources to rural tourism and small cottage industries. Government policies that continue to heavily subsidize water for agriculture are unsustainable and are preventing us from preparing for the inevitable,” he said.

“US leadership is required to both prevent the worst impacts and to provide developing countries such as Jordan and Palestine with technical and financial assistance in adapting to climate change. The oil producing Gulf States must also step up to the plate and become part of the solution,” Mehyar continued.

A Christian knows what is going on as things are played out in the world as the way they should as foretold. If you have the wisdom to know how to read it correctly and not from a bookstore that steals another persons wisdom and combine it with his own that has no meaning or teaching. If you are wise you will understand my words, if not you won't. There are many Christians that say they are but are not. Only a true Christian knows, you know this from his fruit.

Tim: It has always been visible the prophecy belief as the source of all trouble. People who believe in the prophecy are those who brought all kinds of misery to the Middle East. The Crusaders came under the same slogan and they are gone. Then they came back under another slogan in the 20th century and after all they are preparing the destruction of the Jews to realize their prophecy. This is criminal intent pure and clear. Just invest your imagination in the welfare of the people and pray for peace instead. Be reasonable and leave the Middle East alone and if you really want to help the Middle East with your Christian belief, pray for peace.

First of all, there is no such place as Palestine. That tiny land mass is ISRAEL , and if it were not for the duplicitous British and their Nazi-inspired, Arab cohorts, "Jordan" (the light colored area on the map) would also have been part of the Jewish homeland promised to them. How credible can your climate studies be when you present a falso geography?

Dear Doctor: I do not want to argue with you on this limited space but it seems that you are from the Ben Gourion generation and I am surprised you still think like Golda in 1969 because today it is about peace that we are talking and there is no way Palestine could be ignored or avoided. We are all building peace and the Hamas ideas will evaporate just like the archaic ideas of staunch zionist. Just wait and watch.

Zechariah 12 1. The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.2. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it

Tim: I respect you lifetime career as a priest but believe me I have lived with the Arab priests since my childhood and learned about the Prophecy otherwise. As a conclusion, you have to live on Earth to learn about the suffering that Jesus came for. Palestinians are not trash to be spwept out just to apply the Prophecy. There are passages in the Bible saying that Palestinians will prevail.

Tim: You are admitting that the Jews were not a nation and now they have become one. In fact you might say Israel has never been a state even in the Hellenistic and Roman times the land was called Palestina. Its people were Jews and canaanites and Israel was a people not a state. Is it in the Prophecy that the Christians of Palestine be the first victims of Zionism? They are natives of Palestine since ever.

Matthew 16 1. The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4. A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Dear Tim: I am a person calling to defuse the religious ideas from the Conflict including the Islamic and there is no way a country or a nation could be depicted as a mosque or a temple. The land is for living not for praying. Israel has always been a people among the people of Canaan not a sovereign state, just go to the Christian records and see. Please join me to defuse all kinds of war and destruction ideas.

As for the priests would you rather get advice from a book or a third party. Most people never read a book and believe everything a third party says. I call it lazyness. As for what is really going on I will not say. Only that it must fullfill. I know too much.

It is not only the region around Israel but the whole world is suffering from drought. The planet is warming OK we know that and the consequences are seen and felt on the ground but recently. It has been the case for generations since the industrial revolution in Europe. It is true that humans are contributing to the planet warming but they are not the only factor. Humans are only accelerating the warming.

I will only add one more fact. Religion must have 3 things. Past, future and present. If it fails it is not a religion. HOw many religions since 2000 years ago. 2000 or more. Do your own conclusions. Cause I know, but will not say. Look up cause you never saw nothing yet. As for the world Is not things exciting. bye all. All I say is watch, watch.

Tim, Your a right wing idiot. You people are blind. Palestine is the home of my father and grandfather going back 1200 years back. The jews were always persecuted by christains, so after ww2 the Christains wanted to appease the jews by giving them Palesine for all the crimes and hardship they have caused the Jews. Palestinians are the rightfull owners of this land and we will prevail. As a Muslim we are waiting for the Messiah(Jesus) and he is going to set things str8 with all he opperssors of he Palestinian people who are the Jews and Chrisains

you are all so full of baseless notions. 200 years ago "palestine" was virtually devoid of inhabitants. as the jews returned to their homeland in greater numbers, arabs from surrounding countries immigrated to seek a better life (something the palestinians enjoy today more in israel with all the problems as compared to any other arab country. G-D who the arabs claim to worship gave this part of his world to the jews, way before islam was created. but if you look at the map, there are so many countries that these few million can go to settle in that i can't figure out why they do not move on and let the world enjoy some peace.
