israeli embassy mauritaniaAl Qaeda has claimed responsibility for an attack on the Israeli embassy in Mauritania and demanded Arab countries have no ties with Tel Aviv, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera Television said on Sunday. Gunmen opened fire on the Israeli embassy in Mauritania early on Friday, injuring three people but hurting no embassy staff. The injured included two locals and a French national, a Mauritanian minister has told news agencies.

The Arabic channel showed what it said was a written declaration from an al Qaeda-affiliated group.

On Saturday, local press reports said Mauritanian authorities have apprehended three suspects believed to be connected to the shooting. The three suspects were reportedly arrested while attempting to flee a police checkpoint.
