Embassy warns Americans in Lebanon
Posted: 06-03-2008 , 14:39 GMT

American embassyThe American embassy in Beirut on Thursday called on its nationals in Lebanon to exercise caution and maintain a low profile because of concern of attacks against Americans. "There is general concern that extremist groups may be planning to attack US citizens and interests in Lebanon," the embassy said in a statement directed at US nationals in Lebanon and posted on its website.

"The US embassy urges US citizens who live, work, or are traveling in Lebanon to exercise responsible security practices," the statement read. "US citizens should also take care that they maintain a low profile in public and avoid predictable and habitual behavior."

Washington has recently issued similar warnings to its citizens in Lebanon in light of the ongoing political crisis that has left the country without a president since November. The United States has also deployed two warships off the country's coast.
