Israel, Egypt open Gaza Strip border crossings
Posted: 02-07-2008 , 06:42 GMT

Rafah crossingIsrael reopened Wednesday three border crossings for goods into the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, ending the blockade it had reimposed on the Palestinian territory for a rocket attack, a military spokesman said. "The Karni, Nahal Oz and Erez terminals were reopened this morning," said spokesman Peter Lerner, according to AFP.

Israel closed the three crossings -- the main points for transit of goods into the impoverished territory -- on Tuesday in response to a rocket attack the day before in violation of an Egyptian-brokered calm agreement. Egypt partially opened its Rafah crossing point with the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, allowing Palestinians needing to leave the territory to do so. Egypt plans on letting additional Palestinians cross from Egypt into Gaza on Wednesday.
