Iran reacts to Biden comments on Israeli right to attack Iran
Posted: 06-07-2009 , 08:46 GMT

Joe BidenA day after US Vice President Joe Biden said the US would not stand in the way of an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Iranian parliamentary official Alaeddin Boujerdi said that Iran is ready to take “real and decisive” action in response to any Israeli attack.

The Associated Press also reported that Broujerdi told reporters in Tokyo Monday that “both the U.S. and Israel are aware of the consequence of an erroneous decision.”

“Israel showed its military power sufficiently in the 22-day war” in the Gaza Strip earlier this year, he told reporters. “That kind of erroneous judgment poses a threat to the entire Middle Eastern region and the world.”

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor has since clarified the US position saying, “The Vice President refused to engage hypotheticals, and he made clear that our policy has not changed. Our friends and allies, including Israel, know that the President believes that now is the time to explore direct diplomatic options, as with the P5+1.”
