Sudanese TV announced Monday morning the death of renowned artist Sayyed Khalifa, 68, in Jordan, where he was receiving treatment, according to the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
Khalifa, a prominent Sudanese artist, was highly respected in the African Horn, particularly in Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
But Arab listeners will remember two songs in particular: Al Bambo Al Sudani (The Sudanese Bamboo) and Ezzaykum Kifannakum (How Are You?). These songs go back to the late 1950s in Cairo, where the late singer received his religious education, before turning to music.
Throughout his career, the late singer became acquainted with a number of Egyptian artists and participated in the Egyptian black-and-white films with his songs.
The most famous song by Khalifa was Aala Al Jimal Tghar Minna, in addition to his songs written by poets Al Tijani Yousef Bashir and Abdel Menem Abdel Hayy - Albawaba.com
