‘Al Bowayyah’: first Kuwaiti series to be directed by Iranian
The Kuwaiti producer and writer Barrak al Harbi is currently writing a TV drama and will seek the help of an Iranian director to implement the project to mark the first collaboration between the two sides.
The series is entitled al Bowayyah and will be aired during the forthcoming fasting month of Ramadan. Shooting of the series will be in Kuwait and Iran.
“My plan received warm welcome by the information attaché at the Iranian embassy in Kuwait. The embassy is currently collecting information on the most prominent Iranian directors to nominate one of them for the project.
About the reason behind selecting an Iranian director in particular, Harbi told the Kuwaiti daily al Rai al A’m, “the small number of local directors spurs producers to postpone the implementation of their works and some of these directors exploit this affair to raise their pay.”
He added, “I have not selected Iran haphazardly as the Iranian directors are acclaimed worldwide. Iran also has many directors and I do not see any reason why we shouldn’t cooperate with one of them particularly in this series which will include scenes in Iran.”
Harbi did not pay the language barrier any attention and considered the affair as easy to overcome. According to him, direction is a vision and an in depth understanding of the text before anything else.
The series belongs to the social and humanitarian genre and tackles the Iraqi Iranian war in addition to other economic, social and political issues.
Nominated to assume starring roles in the series are Khaled al Nafisi, Abbas Murad from Kuwait and Samah Zainab from Bahrain -- Albawaba.com
