‘Arabs.. Death is Appealing’: Daring Play Criticizes Arab Situation
Tab al Mawt Ya Arab (Arabs.. Death is Appealing) is the title of the latest play by the Syrian United Engineers Troupe which has staged 13 performances dominated by black and critical comedy and bitter sarcasm.
The Arab Israeli conflict is the axis of the new play performed by the troupe, which was keen to shed light on the Arab social and political concerns in a sarcastic and daring manner.
The troupe founder Humam Hoot told the daily al Riyadh, “I depended in my play on absolute spontaneity. The troupe is comprised of graduate colleagues with high level of sophistication. We formed a troupe called United Engineers and we operate as a team with the objective of bringing the smile to the faces of our audience and make them dream of a beautiful and shining homeland. The audience is thirsty for such plays and the inclusion of merry gestures that make people forget their problems while maintaining the main thrilling elements has become inevitable.”
He added, “I have developed the rhetoric, which I consider very important for the stage, through a style free of triviality. I present something which neither satellite, TV channels or novels have. The most beautiful thing is that the viewer share you in the play.” -- Albawaba.com
