‘Ocean’s 11’ Beats ‘Harry Potter’ in North American Box Office
The all-star movie Ocean's 11 beat the magic of Harry Potter across North America, topping the kids' blockbuster in weekend receipts, according to preliminary data released Sunday by Exhibitor Relations Inc.
Ocean's 11, which features Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia and Brad Pitt, was expected to take in 39.2 million dollars in its debut.
After holding the top spot for three weeks, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone slipped to second place, with an expected take of 14.8 million dollars, the company said.
Harry Potter has grossed an estimated 239.7 million dollars in the four weeks since its release.
Behind Enemy Lines, a movie portraying the rescue of a US pilot downed in Bosnia, was in third place, with an expected take of 8.1 million dollars.
It was followed by Monsters, Inc (6.6 million), Spy Game (4.6 million), Black Knight (3.2 million) and Shallow Hal (2.5 million).
Rounding out the top 10 were Out Cold (1.4 million), Amelie (1.1 million) and Domestic Disturbance (950,000) -- AFP
