‘Underground’ staged at Modern Theatrical Dancing Fest in Egypt

The show Taht al Ard (underground) portrayed by the Egyptian Opera House modern theatrical dancing troupe, accuses the United States of America of standing behind the September 11 attacks in Washington and New York. 

The accumulation of the theatrical dancing shows indicate that the US has crushed the region and spurred it to resort to terrorism as seen in the attacks against the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. 

The dances and audiovisual effects director, planner and designer, the Lebanese troupe manager, Walid Awni managed to do that through mixing two artistic tracks. The first one is by adopting the shadow theater model in reference to the events, interpreted through the movements of the dancers behind a white piece of cloth that covers the backdrop completely. 

The second track is implemented under a green piece of cloth that covers the stage floor completely symbolizing the earth, and under which the dancers perform their dances with their hands appearing only. The second track is implemented through the dancers under the cloth cover extending their hands through special cracks and putting them inside models for the World Trade Center twin towers with paper planes being thrown from the stage sides towards the two towers. 

Four dancers wearing black Arab costumes are excluded as they assume the role of narrators through their observations of what is going on in addition to their participation by preparing the cloth covering the stage and helping dancers in using the tools they show from underneath the cloth. 

The show was portrayed within the framework of the modern theatrical dancing festival which kicked off on May 5 and will continue till the end of this month with the participation of four Scandinavian and four Egyptian troupes -- Albawaba.com
