David Dunn, played by Bruce Willis is from a blue-collar neighborhood in Philadelphia. He emerges unharmed as the sole survivor of a devastating train accident. The problem is that David has also survived various other accidents unscathed. The Story gets more exciting when a mysterious stranger, Elijah, played by Samuel L. Jackson offers a bizarre explanation as to why David escaped without a single scratch, an explanation that threatens to change David's family and life forever.

Aside from Willis and Jackson, the film stars Robin Wright Penn as Audrey Dunn, Spencer Treat Clark as Joseph Dunn and Charlayne Woodard as Elijah’s mother.
