The recent developments in Palestine have masked the Egyptian and Arab celebrations which were prepared for the 25th anniversary of the passing away of the most prominent Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez.
The daily al Hayat cited an Egyptian TV official as saying, “out of our respect for the feelings of millions and in compliance with the national responsibility, all programs and songs which were prepared to be aired on the anniversary had been postponed. All the Egyptian TV channels started Sunday morning screening national films and songs, which call for patriotism and condemn the Israeli enemy and its barbaric aggressions. The national songs of the late singer only were aired.”
The song A’rabiyyah A’rabiyyah Ya Filisteen (Palestine is for Arabs) sung by the rising singer Amal Maher was portrayed on the screen more than any other song in addition to other patriotic songs for Fairouz, Ali al Haggar, Hani Shaker, Latifah, Kathem al Saher and others.
Few weeks ago the Egyptian TV geared up for commemorating Abdel Halim’s 25th anniversary but after the recent developments erupted in the Palestinian lands, the celebrations were postponed until further notice.
It is noteworthy to mention that the Arab audience still loves Abdel Halim as evidenced by his albums, which are best sellers -- Albawaba.com
